Spinach / Palak Naan

1 1/2 cup wheat flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
salt to taste
1/4 cup yogurt
1/4 cup spinach puree ( 1 cup spinach / palak leaves)
1 tsp oil

  1. In a blender, add the chopped spinach and grind well to a puree adding little water ( about 1/4 cup spinach puree). Keep it aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, add wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt and mix well.
  3. Add yogurt into this and mix well.
  4. Then add spinach puree and 1 tsp of oil and mix well and knead well to a smooth dough.
  5. Spread little oil on top and keep it covered for 1 hour.
  6. Divide the dough into equal portions of balls.
  7. Dust your rolling board with some flour and roll out the ball into oval or round shape.
  8. Heat a tawa / pan and place the naan and cook at medium flame until bubbles starts to appear and the base is cooked and browned.
  9. Then carefully lift the naan with tongs and cook the other side by placing directly on the flame.
  10. Move the naan all over the flame to ensure the sides and the surfaces are well cooked with some brown spots.
  11. Remove from the pan and brush naan with some melted butter and cover with a towel to keep warm.
  • If you are not placing on direct flame, flip the naan when bubbles form on the surface of the naan and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned and cooked through..
